I spend most of my weekends in Newport, RI. Activities generally include a few drinks at the local bar, shopping, a visit to the casino and several hours of handbell choir rehearsal. It's a second home to me and my friends there are an extension of my family. As friends are the family you choose, I really did something right in finding all of them.

Dr. Strangelove or How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. For me, it is the perfect film as it combines my favorite genres; satire, black comedy and cold-war nuclear scare film. Not to mention Peter Sellers' performance in multiple roles was amazing.

Gregory Duguies

  • Senior FMS Engine Developer

Greg is a software developer working on the Communications and E-Timesheets (Comet) team. He says, “throughout my long time here at Annkissam, I've enjoyed how my work has been able to hit on a variety of different aspects of our technology and software products. It's given me the ability to learn, re-learn and apply all the practices and experiences I've gathered over my time here. Most other software companies move quickly through a variety of projects and implementations, but I think having the broad, complex, and consistent foundation in the software we've built has improved my skills as a developer. I think having developers deeply rooted in our products has given us developers the ability to continue to deliver high quality software to our clients.”

Greg graduated from Boston University with a degree in computer engineering. During his time at Boston University, he was president of the Filipino Student Association where he has fostered a desire for working with others and making an impact on the surrounding community. Greg spent his childhood on Guam and has enjoyed living in Boston for the last six years.

Greg joined the Annkissam team in 2013.

  • What inspired you to do the work you do?

My high school computer class my senior year. My teacher was really smart and dorky, and he taught class with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. It was my first time learning and writing computer programs, but I found that it was something I was naturally good at, and something that I looked forward to every day. That was the first time that I actually did work ahead of time for a class. It was just a clear sign to me that this was something I could do for the rest of my life.

  • What is your favorite movie?  Why?

Definitely, Maybe. I am a fan of rom coms, and that's my favorite one.

  • What's your favorite snack?

My favorite snack are the kettle-cooked potato chips in the office. They are so bad, but so good!

Nathaniel Woodland

  • Senior Director of Engineering

Nathaniel is a software developer working on the Drupal team. He says, “for me, a day well spent is either a day I help build something useful, or a day I learn valuable new skills. A typical day at Annkissam regularly sees me accomplishing both. The fact that the skills I'm acquiring and the things I'm building are directly helping organizations perform meaningful and impactful work further adds to the overall sense of fulfillment. This, coupled with teaming up with diverse, intelligent co-workers on a daily basis to tackle the wide-ranging challenges facing our clients makes it hard for me to imagine getting as much out of my career as I get from working at Annkissam.”

Nathaniel's interest in computers started at an early age when helping his dad piece together their family's first Intel 286-powered PC. His love for web development came about later when he created his own GeoCities website in the mid-1990s.  His hobby transitioned into freelance work building websites for local groups and businesses. He worked a senior role at Percussion Software before joining Annkissam.

Nathaniel joined the Annkissam team in 2014.

  • What is your favorite movie?  Why?

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. I think of web development as the modern day wild west.

Two dogs. Opal, a 15 year-old, long-haired, one-eyed chihuahua. While she can be feisty and a little crotchety at times, plus terrifiying small children with her cyclopness, she is incredibly sweet and I find her adorably scrappy looking. I’ve been able to work on systems that are designed to help streamline our clients workflow, which in turn helps them focus on the services they provide for their clients. I have met David Spade before. I was walking around Downtown with a friend, and when we were walking past the Ritz-Carlton my friend noticed that David Spade was just hanging out in front of the hotel. My friend talks to him and tells him how much he loves Grown Ups, while I'm just standing there not saying a word. We walk away and then I realized how weird I must of looked, and my friend confirms that I was completely star struck.

  • Why did you choose the college you chose?

I had to make a decision in less than 2 hours after learning that my counselor wanted me to apply Early Decision, and the deadline was in 2 days. So I chose Middlebury because they were a liberal arts college with a geography department. After sending my application I started learning more about Middlebury and was very happy with my decision.

  • What do you like about working at Annkissam?

I have never worked in a place where the staff, from the developers all the way to the executives, is as transparent, open, helpful, and accessible as they are at Annkissam. This internal transparency makes Annkissam a more interesting place to work because I have the opportunity to understand so much more about various aspects of the business than just what is necessary for my role as a Business Analyst. I also enjoy being able to take on additional projects outside my scope of work that contribute to my professional development.

  • What is a fun, random fact about you?

During the week of Passover one year, I did a "reverse Exodus" trip with a group of friends in Egypt. We started in Israel, went through the Sinai desert, climbed (the supposed) Mount Sinai, then went to Cairo, and then the pyramids at Giza and Saqqarah. It was an incredible trip and was truly something special to eat matzah on horseback at the pyramids!
